Address Skin Pigmentation Concerns with Laser IPL

Changes to skin color can occur for a variety of reasons: sun damage, vitamin deficiency, hormone imbalance, rosacea, acne, hyper pigmentation, aging, and more. As you enter your 30s, collagen and elastin production declines, as does cell turnover. This natural part of aging makes it increasingly difficult for skin to recover from injury and inflammation.

While a variety of treatment options are available to address pigmentation concerns, many people prefer the results achieved with Laser IPL (intense pulse light). Unlike ablative laser skin treatments, which remove the top layer of skin, Laser IPL rejuvenates skin in a targeted, non-ablative fashion—which means less downtime.

How does Laser IPL work?

Unlike the single wavelength of light found in traditional lasers, Laser IPL uses a bright light covered with filters that block most wavelengths except those associated with pigment and blood vessels.

This light energy is converted to heat energy, which essentially damages the pigmented skin (or melanin). This process triggers the skin’s repair mechanisms to remove the damaged tissue and ultimately enhance the skin’s appearance. A slight darkening of the skin may occur prior to healing.

Depending on the cause and extent of your pigmentation concerns, optimum results can typically be expected after three to six treatments. Due to the procedure’s non-ablative nature, there is minimal downtime associated with Laser IPL.

While your aesthetician will review all pre- and post-treatment requirements and concerns during your consultation, it’s important to note that you should avoid tanning and self-tanning in the weeks prior to your procedure. You should also avoid high-impact exercise and consuming alcohol while your skin heals.
