Banish Wrinkles and Regain a Youthful Look with Botox® and Dysport®

Botox® and Dysport® are two different brand names of the injectable drug Botulinum Toxin A. Both Botox® and Dysport® have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles and other health ailments in the U.S.

According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons,® Botulinum Toxin A is by far the most common minimally-invasive, cosmetic procedure their patients request—with 7.4 million procedures performed in 2018.*

Over time, contraction of the facial muscles, sun exposure, and the natural decline of skin elasticity and collagen can lead to facial wrinkles and fine lines. BOTOX® and Dysport® are commonly used to minimize the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet around the eyes.

What is Botulinum Toxin A and how does it work?

Botulinum Toxin A is a purified protein—it is NOT live bacteria as some rumors suggest. When BOTOX® or Dysport® is injected into muscle, these purified proteins saturate the receptors on the muscle, which stops the chemical message from the brain to the muscle from occurring.

This action reduces the intensity and frequency of muscle contraction. When the muscles don’t contract, the skin does not wrinkle, and the lines smooth out over time. Some younger patients undergo preventive BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments to maintain a more youthful look, which makes both formulas popular options for anti-aging skincare routines.

Is Botox® safe? What about Dysport®?

Many myths continue to circulate about Botulinum Toxin A, such as the misconception noted above that it is a bacteria (it is NOT). Another myth about BOTOX® and Dysport® is that the patient may lose sensation or feel numbness at the injection site—this is also FALSE. While some patients report the injections feel like a pinch, you can request ice or numbing cream prior to the procedure if discomfort is a concern for you.

Both BOTOX® and Dysport® are generally considered safe for all skin types and colors. The likelihood of experiencing side effects from these two thoroughly tested and FDA-approved treatments is very minimal. That being said, NO medical treatment should be considered risk-free.

Some people are not good candidates for treatments with Botulinum Toxin A, especially those with certain underlying health conditions. As with any medical treatment, it’s important to speak with an experienced healthcare practitioner who understands the pros, cons, and risks of the procedure, as well as treatment alternatives such as dermal fillers.

Say goodbye to wrinkles today!

Both BOTOX® AND DYSPORT® treatments are minimally invasive, using a very fine needle that is injected into specific muscles to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure typically takes about 10 minutes, with noticeable results appearing within 24 to 48 hours following injection. While each individual patient experiences a unique aesthetic outcome, most can expect results that last up to four months.

All BOTOX® and Dysport® evaluations and treatments at EVEXIAS are performed by board certified nurse practitioners and board certified and licensed registered nurses, each with specialized training in the fields of skin rejuvenation and medical aesthetics.
